Empty states and troubleshooting

No results found, location access required, and what to do.

Common empty states

Search has several distinct empty states. Each tells you what to do:

Location access required

If you haven't given Currently location permission, the Places tab and place-related search features are limited. You'll see this:

LOCATION ACCESS REQUIRED. Enable Location Services to Unlock Full Location Features. Button: Allow.

Tap Allow to grant Currently access to your phone's GPS. Once allowed:

  • Places appear sorted by distance from you
  • WHO'S HERE RIGHT NOW shows nearby live users
  • The Live Map fills with friend pins
  • Smart suggestions like YOU'RE HERE LIVE work

Respect for privacy. Currently only uses your location for in-app features (matching to places, showing nearby friends). It's not shared with advertisers or third parties. To turn off live location separately while keeping basic location access, see Profile → Privacy & Safety → Live Location.

Troubleshooting search

If search isn't working as expected, try these in order:

Search returns nothing for things you know exist

  1. Check spelling — Currently doesn't auto-correct misspellings.
  2. Try a partial match (e.g., search jay instead of Jay Patel).
  3. Pull-to-refresh the search results.
  4. Restart Currently and search again.

History won't clear

  1. Tap Delete All from the History section.
  2. If chips remain, force-quit Currently and reopen.
  3. If still stuck, restart your phone.

Activity filter chips won't clear

  1. Tap Clear All at the right side of the chip strip.
  2. If a chip's ✕ doesn't respond, tap somewhere else first, then back.
  3. Switch tabs (Moments → People → Moments) to reset filters.

Place isn't showing up

  1. Make sure you have Location Services enabled.
  2. Check if the place is far away — Currently sorts by distance, so distant matches may be lower in the list.
  3. Search for the place by name in the universal search bar.
  4. If still missing, the place may not be in the database — see Searching for places for adding new places.
