Signing up with your phone number

Updated

How to enter your phone number and get your verification code.

How to sign up

  1. Open the Currently app. Swipe through the welcome screens or tap Login / Sign Up to skip ahead.
  2. On the What's your phone number? screen, your country code is set to IN +91. Type your 10-digit mobile number in the field.
  3. Make sure the Terms of Use & Privacy Policy checkbox is ticked. It's checked by default, but if you accidentally untap it, the green button won't work.
  4. Tap Get OTP →. The button turns bright green when your number is valid.
  5. If your phone asks "Currently would like to send you push notifications", tap OK or Allow. This is how we'll let you know when friends post or react to you.

Why we ask for your number. Your phone number is your account. We use it to send your verification code and to help your friends find you on Currently. We never share your number publicly.

FAQs — Phone number

Q. Why is the country code locked to +91?

A. Currently is currently available only in India, so all phone numbers must be Indian (+91). We'll expand to more countries in future updates.

Q. The 'Get OTP' button is grey. What's wrong?

A. The button stays grey until you've entered all 10 digits of your phone number and the Terms checkbox is ticked. Check both, and the button will turn green.

Q. Can I sign up with email instead?

A. Not right now. Currently uses phone numbers as the only way to sign up, since friend discovery is built around your contacts.

Q. Will I get spam SMS or marketing texts?

A. No. We only send SMS for verification codes. We don't use your number for marketing.

Q. My number isn't valid even though I typed it correctly. Why?

A. Indian mobile numbers must start with 6, 7, 8, or 9. Landline numbers and numbers starting with 0–5 won't work.

Q. What if I tapped 'Don't Allow' on push notifications?

A. You can still use the app. To turn notifications back on later, go to your phone's Settings → Currently → Notifications → Allow.
