Picking your city and giving Currently access to your location.
How to set your city
- On the Your city? screen, your phone may ask: "Allow Currently to use your location?" Tap Allow While Using App for the best experience.
- If you allow location, your city will auto-fill (you can still change it).
- If not, tap the City field and start typing. Suggestions like
Ahmedabad (Gujarat)will appear below. - Tap a city from the suggestions to select it.
- Tap Next → to continue.
Why your city matters
- Local feed. You'll see what's happening in your city first.
- Live Map. See friends and places near you in real time.
- Local plans. Find events and meetups happening around you.
Location choices. Allow While Using App gives you the full experience. Allow Once works too, but you'll be re-asked later. Don't Allow means features like Live Map and 'pals nearby' won't work — but you can still use the app.
FAQs — City and location
Q. My city isn't in the suggestions. What now?
A. Type the full name slowly — sometimes spelling matters. If it's still missing, pick the nearest big city (we cover all major Indian cities). You can update it later from your profile.
Q. I tapped 'Don't Allow' for location by mistake. How do I fix it?
A. Go to your phone's Settings → Currently → Location → While Using the App. The next time you open the app, location will work.
Q. Can I change my city later?
A. Yes. Go to Profile → Edit Profile → City to change it anytime — handy if you move or travel.
Q. Will Currently track my location all the time?
A. No. We only use your location while you're using the app (While Using App permission), and only to show nearby friends and places. We never track you in the background.
Q. Why doesn't Currently work as well without location?
A. A big part of Currently is showing you what's happening near you right now — friends nearby, places to check in, local events. Without location, those features can't work as designed.
Q. Is my exact location shared with my friends?
A. Only when you post something. The location pin on a post shows where you posted from — and only your friends can see it. Your live location is never shared without you posting.
