Why we ask for each permission and what happens if you say no.
During signup, Currently asks for four permissions. Here's what each one does, why we need it, and what happens if you deny it.
| Permission | When asked | What it does | If you say no |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notifications | After phone number | Send you alerts when friends post or react | App still works, but you'll miss real-time updates |
| Location | On city screen | Auto-fill your city; show friends nearby; power Live Map | Live Map and 'nearby' features won't work |
| Camera | When adding profile picture | Take selfies for profile and posts | You can't post or set a profile photo |
| Photos | When adding profile picture | Pick a photo from your gallery for profile | You'll need to use the camera instead |
| Contacts | On friend discovery screen | Find friends already on Currently | Skip this step; you can invite friends later |
How to change permissions later
Changed your mind? You can update permissions anytime:
On iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Currently.
- Toggle the permissions on or off.
On Android
- Open Settings → Apps → Currently → Permissions.
- Toggle each permission on or off.
One thing to know. Camera or Photos access is required to finish signup, since you need a profile picture. The other permissions are optional but make Currently work much better.
