Why some moments are locked

Updated

If a moment is blurred with a 'Post to View' message, here's how to unlock it.

What 'Post to View' means

Sometimes when you scroll your feed, a moment is blurred with a message in the middle:

POST TO VIEWTo view this Currently, share yours with them & unlock. Followed by a button: Take Your Currently.

This means the user who posted that moment has set their visibility to mutual sharing — you can see their moment only if you've also posted a moment of your own recently. It's a way to keep the app give-and-take rather than passive scrolling.

How to unlock a blurred moment

  1. Tap the Take Your Currently button on the blurred moment.
  2. Currently opens the camera so you can post your own moment.
  3. Once you've posted, return to the feed — the moment will be unblurred.

Why this exists. Currently is built on real-time, real-life sharing. Some users prefer their moments to be visible only to friends who are also actively posting — not silent observers. Posting your own activity unlocks theirs.

FAQs — Locked moments

Q. Why is this moment locked but others aren't?

A. Each user can choose to lock their moments to mutual sharers only. Other users haven't enabled this, so their moments are always visible to followers.

Q. How long do I stay 'unlocked' after I post?

A. Posting one moment usually keeps you unlocked for the rest of the day, sometimes longer. The exact window can change over time — keep posting and you won't have to think about it.

Q. Can I turn this on for my own moments?

A. Yes — there's a setting for it under Profile → Privacy & Safety. Turning it on means anyone who hasn't posted recently will see your moments as blurred.

Q. I posted a moment but the lock is still there. Why?

A. It can take a minute to update. Pull the feed to refresh. If it's still locked after a few minutes, your moment may have failed to post — check Profile → Your Moments to confirm it's there.

Q. Does posting any moment unlock everyone, or just certain users?

A. Any genuine moment you post unlocks all locked moments in your feed. There's no rule about content — just that you've posted something.
