Spotlight, Close Friends, and Private moments

Updated

Some moments have a special badge. Here's what they mean.

The three special moment types

BadgeWhat it meansWho can see it
SpotlightA standout moment chosen for extra visibility — usually because it's getting strong reactions or the user posted something special.Everyone (same as a normal moment, but boosted in feeds)
Close FriendsThe user shared this only with their close friends list.Only people on the user's Close Friends list
PrivateThe user shared this with their followers, but it can't be re-shared.Only people who follow the user

Spotlight badge

A Spotlight moment shows a small sparkle badge near the top of the card. If you tap it, you'll see:

  • Spotlight momentThis badge will appear only when the moment is Spotlight

This is a temporary status — the moment may lose its Spotlight badge after a while as new ones take its place.

Close Friends moments

If you see a moment with a green Close Friends badge, the user shared it only with their close friends list. If you're not on that list, you won't see the moment at all — they only show up to people who are.

Trying to share a Close Friends moment? If you tap Share on someone's Close Friends moment, you'll see: "You cannot share this moment." Only people the original poster has added to their Close Friends list can see it, but no one can re-share it. This is by design — to protect privacy.

Private moments

A Private moment is one where the user wants to keep it inside their follower circle. You can react to it, comment on it, but you can't share it outside the app.

Trying to share a Private moment? You'll see: "You cannot share this moment." Only people who follow the user can see this moment, but no one can share it. This protects the user's privacy.

FAQs — Spotlight, Close Friends, Private

Q. How do I get on someone's Close Friends list?

A. Only the person can add you. There's no way to request access. If you're already friends and they trust you, ask them to add you to their Close Friends list.

Q. Can I make my own moments Close Friends only?

A. Yes. When posting a moment, tap the visibility option and choose Close Friends. Manage your Close Friends list from Profile → Close Friends.

Q. How does Spotlight work?

A. Spotlight is automatic — Currently picks moments that are doing well in their first few minutes (lots of reactions, comments) and gives them a Spotlight badge. You can't manually request Spotlight.

Q. Why can't I share this moment?

A. Either the moment is Close Friends or Private. In both cases, the user has chosen to limit who can see it. You can still react and comment, but you can't share it outside the app.

Q. If I see a Spotlight moment, can I save it?

A. Yes — you can save any moment you can see (including Spotlight) to your saved list, even if you can't share it. Tap the more-options menu on the moment and tap Save Moment.
