As a poster, you can turn off comments, delete unwanted ones, and control who comments on your moments.
Opening comment controls
- Open the comments panel on your moment.
- Tap the more-options icon at the top-right of the panel.
- The Comment controls sheet opens.
What's inside
The Comment controls sheet has two sections:
For this post
- Delete comments — bulk-delete comments you don't want on this specific moment.
- Turn off commenting — no one can comment on this moment any more. Existing comments stay visible. Toggle back on anytime.
For all posts
- Allow comments from → — set who can comment on all your future moments. Options usually include Everyone, People you follow, Your followers, Close Friends, or No one.
Post-level vs account-level. For this post controls only affect the moment you're viewing. For all posts changes your default comment policy across every future moment. Choose carefully.
Deleting bad comments quickly
If your moment has a few comments you'd rather remove:
- Open the comments panel.
- Long-press the bad comment, then tap Delete (red).
- It's gone from the thread.
If you have many to clean up at once, use Comment controls → Delete comments for a faster bulk experience.
If a moment is getting heated
If a moment is attracting unwanted attention or argumentative comments, you have three escalating options:
- Turn off commenting on this post. Stops new comments without deleting existing ones.
- Delete the moment. Removes everything — moment, comments, reactions.
- Restrict comments globally via For all posts → Allow comments from → People you follow. New moments going forward will only accept comments from your trusted circle.
FAQs — Comment controls
Q. If I turn off commenting, can people still react?
A. Yes. Reactions (hearts, emoji) are separate from comments and stay enabled.
Q. Can I turn comments back on after turning them off?
A. Yes — anytime. Open the same Comment controls sheet and tap Turn on commenting.
Q. Will comments I delete come back if I turn commenting off and on again?
A. No. Deleted comments are gone for good — they don't reappear when you toggle commenting back on.
Q. If I change 'Allow comments from' to 'People you follow', what happens to existing comments from non-followers?
A. Existing comments stay. The setting only affects new comments going forward.
Q. Can I turn off comments for the whole account?
A. Yes — set Allow comments from → No one. No one will be able to comment on any of your moments. You can change it back anytime.
Q. If I turn off comments on a popular moment, will I lose followers?
A. No, but engagement may drop slightly since comments often drive reach. If you're turning them off because of a specific bad actor, Block that person instead — that lets the rest of the conversation continue.
