Creating a Moment

Sharing now (and after)

Updated

The Share now button, saving to your gallery, and what happens after you post.

The Share now button

Once your moment is ready — photo captured, activity tagged, caption written, place and people added if needed, audience chosen — the green Share now button at the bottom-right is enabled.

Before you tap Share now

Quick checklist:

  • Photo / video looks right — tap Retake to redo if needed
  • Activity tag is correct (e.g., Drinking - Coffee)
  • Caption says what you want to say
  • Place is tagged (or skipped intentionally)
  • People are tagged (or skipped)
  • Audience is set right (Public / Followers / Close Friends)

Saving to your gallery before posting

Just to the left of the Share now button, there's a small download icon (arrow pointing down).

  1. Tap the download icon.
  2. Your photo or video saves to your phone gallery.
  3. This is purely a backup — it doesn't affect the moment posting.

Save the original. Currently doesn't permanently store the original raw file from your camera. If you want to keep your photo, tap the download icon before posting. After posting, you can also save it from your moment's more-options menu — but the original quality is captured better at this stage.

Tapping Share now

  1. Tap Share now.
  2. A brief loading spinner shows.
  3. Your moment is posted — it appears in friends' feeds based on the audience you picked.
  4. The composer closes and you return to the home feed.
  5. You'll see your new moment at the top, with Just now as the timestamp.

What happens right after posting

  • Friends in your audience get a feed update — they may see your moment in their For you or Friends tab
  • Stalkers get a push notification — friends who follow you in Stalking mode are notified
  • Tagged people get a push notification"@you tagged you in a moment"
  • Your status pill updates — your profile now shows the new activity (e.g., Eating Now)
  • Your streak grows — if this is your first moment of the day, your daily streak counts

If posting fails

Sometimes a moment fails to post — bad connection, server error, etc. You'll see:

FAILED TO POST. Couldn't post your moment. Try again? Buttons: Retry / Discard.

  • Retry — tries to post again with the same content.
  • Discard — gives up on this moment. The composer state is lost.

For failed posts. Before tapping Discard, save the photo to your gallery (using the download icon if you didn't already). That way, you don't lose the photo if the post fails permanently — you can re-post later from the gallery.

Editing or deleting after posting

After posting, you can still:

  • Edit caption — open the moment, more-options menu → Edit Caption
  • Edit visibility — change Public to Close Friends, etc.
  • Turn off comments — more-options menu → Turn off commenting
  • Delete — more-options menu → Delete Moment (permanent, no undo)

See the Feed and Comments help guide for full details on managing your moments after posting.

FAQs — Share now and after

Q. Why is my Share now button greyed out?

A. Usually because: (1) you haven't picked an activity tag, (2) the photo didn't save properly, or (3) Currently is missing a permission. Make sure your activity is set, then try again.

Q. Can I schedule a moment to post later?

A. No — Currently is all about right-now sharing. Moments post immediately when you tap Share now. Scheduling defeats the purpose of a real-time social app.

Q. Will my moment look the same way I see it in the composer?

A. Yes — what you see in the composer is what gets posted. The only difference: the feed view may crop your photo to fit the card aspect ratio. Tap to view full-size to see the original framing.

Q. How long does my moment stay up?

A. As long as you want — moments don't auto-expire. They stay until you delete them. Some users post and delete daily for a Snapchat-like feel; others build a permanent profile of moments.

Q. If I post and immediately delete, did anyone see it?

A. Possibly — moments post instantly. If a friend was viewing the feed in those few seconds, they may have seen it before deletion. Currently doesn't track 'who saw before delete'.

Q. Can I post the same moment to multiple audiences (e.g., Public AND Close Friends versions)?

A. Not in one shot. Pick one audience per moment. If you want both, post twice — once Public, once Close Friends — but be aware that's redundant content for your Close Friends.

Q. My moment posted but it's not in my profile yet. Why?

A. Refresh your profile (pull down). Sometimes the profile cache lags by a few seconds. If still missing after a minute, the post may have failed silently — check your home feed to confirm.
