Public, Followers, Close Friends — and editing the list.
Why audience matters
Currently lets you decide who sees each moment. Some moments are for everyone; some are for your inner circle. Picking the right audience for each moment keeps your sharing intentional.
Open the audience picker
On the composer, near the Share now button, you'll see an audience chip — by default it shows Public. Tap the chip to open the Who can see your moment? sheet.
Three audience options
| Option | Who sees it | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Public — All User | Everyone on Currently | Open vibes, daily moments, public events |
| Followers — Only your followers | People who follow you | Slightly more personal — friends + your engaged audience |
| Close Friends — Only {N} Friends | People on your Close Friends list (e.g., 15 Friends) | Inner circle moments — private, intimate, gossip |
Editing your Close Friends list
On the Close Friends option in the audience sheet, you'll see an Edit link. Tap it to manage who's on your Close Friends list.
Close Friends list. Adding or removing people from Close Friends affects all your future Close Friends moments — not just this one. Past Close Friends moments stay visible to whoever was on the list at the time of posting (we don't retroactively show or hide).
How the audience chip changes
After picking an audience, the audience chip on the composer updates:
- Public — small globe icon
- Followers — small lock icon
- Close Friends — small star icon
This is the visible signal of who can see your moment. You can change it any time before tapping Share now.
Can I change the audience after posting?
Yes — open the moment, tap the more-options menu, tap Edit Moment, and change the visibility. People who saw the moment with the old setting still saw it; future viewers see the new setting.
What others see based on visibility
| Visibility | Badge on moment | Sharing allowed? |
|---|---|---|
| Public | (none) | Yes — full sharing allowed |
| Followers | Subtle lock | Yes — full sharing allowed |
| Close Friends | Close Friends green badge | No — share, copy, download all blocked (see Sharing Moments help) |
FAQs — Audience
Q. What's the difference between Followers and Public?
A. Public = visible to anyone, including non-followers — perfect for discovery. Followers = only people who already follow you. If your account is private, they're the same. If your account is public, Public moments are searchable and surface in 'For You' feeds for non-followers.
Q. How many people are on my Close Friends list by default?
A. Zero — until you add some. New accounts have an empty Close Friends list. Tap Edit on the audience picker (or go to Profile → Friends → Close Friends) to add people.
Q. Can I have different audiences for different moments?
A. Yes — pick a fresh audience for each moment. Some moments can be Public, others Close Friends, others Followers. Currently remembers your last-used audience as the default for the next post.
Q. Can someone see my Close Friends moment if they're not on the list?
A. No — Close Friends moments are restricted to your Close Friends list only. Non-list followers don't see them at all (not even as restricted previews).
Q. If I delete someone from Close Friends, can they still see my old Close Friends moments?
A. No — once removed, they lose access to all Close Friends moments, past and future. The list is checked at view time, not at post time.
Q. Can I make a moment visible to just one specific person?
A. Not directly — Close Friends is the smallest audience option. For one-on-one sharing, send the moment via direct chat (using the share button after posting), or just message them privately.
Q. If my account is private, do I still need to pick an audience?
A. Yes — even on private accounts, the audience options matter. Public = all your followers see it. Close Friends = only the inner circle. The difference matters within your follower base.
