Sharing Moments

Screenshots and saving (privacy)

Currently doesn't block screenshots

Unlike some apps (like Snapchat or Instagram for disappearing messages), Currently does not prevent screenshots. If you take a screenshot of any moment, the poster won't get a notification. The screenshot is saved to your phone like any other.

Why no blocking? Screenshot blocking is unreliable and gives a false sense of privacy. Currently chose to be honest: posters should know that anything they share could be screenshotted, even Close Friends moments. The platform doesn't pretend otherwise.

If you screenshot, please…

Use good judgment:

  • Don't share screenshots of Close Friends or Private moments outside the app
  • Don't post them to other social media without the poster's permission
  • Don't crop out the poster's name to claim credit
  • Treat screenshots like a private memento — your eyes only

Good etiquette. If you really want to share a Close Friends moment with someone outside that list, just ask the poster. They might make it Public, take a regular share-able photo for you, or simply say no — but at least you respected their choice.

If someone shares your moment without permission

If you posted a moment as Close Friends or Private and someone screenshotted and shared it elsewhere, here's what you can do:

  1. Confront them privately first. A direct message often works better than escalation.
  2. Remove them from your Close Friends list if applicable (Profile → Friends → Close Friends → Remove).
  3. Block them to prevent future viewing (see Profile help).
  4. Report it if the screenshot is being used to harass or harm you (see Comments help — same flow for moments).

FAQs — Screenshots and privacy

Q. Will Currently notify the poster when I screenshot their moment?

A. No. Currently doesn't detect or report screenshots. The poster has no way to know.

Q. Is screenshotting against Currently's rules?

A. Screenshots themselves aren't a rules violation. Reposting them with malicious intent — to harass, dox, or impersonate someone — is. Use judgment, and report bad behaviour when you see it.

Q. Can I make my moments unsavable?

A. By posting as Close Friends or Private, you disable the Save and Download options for everyone except yourself. Public moments are saveable by default.

Q. If I save a moment to my Currently saved list, does the poster know?

A. No. Saving inside Currently is private — only you see what you've saved.

Q. Why doesn't Currently watermark moments to prevent abuse?

A. Watermarks are added on Story shares (a small Currently logo + 'View on Currently' sticker), but not on every screenshot. We may add visible watermarks in future updates if abuse becomes a problem.
