Contacts on Currently, Add Friends, Currently Stars, and inviting your phone book.
Open the People tab
- From the Search hub, tap People at the top.
- If this is your first time, you may see a banner:
Invite friends on Currently. Cntly.me/{username}.
Sections in the People tab
Scrolling down, you'll see several distinct sections, each grouping a different type of relationship:
| Section | Who's there |
|---|---|
| Contacts on Currently | People in your phone contacts who are already on Currently. Each shows mutual friend count (20 MUTUAL FRIENDS) and Follow / Remove buttons |
| Add Friends | People you've recently added to your followers — gives you a chance to Follow Back or dismiss with ✕ |
| Find Friends | Suggested people based on your network and activity. Each shows mutual friend count + a profile photo + Follow button |
| Currently Stars | Featured users — founders, creators, top accounts. Marked with a crown badge. Tap to follow. |
| Invite Friends | Phone contacts who are NOT yet on Currently. Each shows initials and a green + invite button |
The Match Contacts gate
If you haven't connected your contacts yet, you'll see this prompt instead of the Contacts on Currently section:
MATCH CONTACTS TO FIND FRIENDS. Your contacts stay 100% secure & private. Button: FIND FRIENDS.
Tap FIND FRIENDS. Currently asks for Contacts permission — tap Allow to enable. Currently then matches your phone contacts against existing Currently users (privately, on-device) and shows you who's already on the app.
Privacy of contact matching. Currently doesn't upload your contacts. The matching happens via secure hashing — Currently checks if a hash of each phone number matches an existing user's hash. The phone numbers themselves stay on your device.
Currently Stars
Stars are featured accounts — usually founders, creators, or top-engaged users. Their profile cards in this section have:
- Crown badge above their avatar
- Bio one-liner (e.g., Founder at Currently.club)
- Follow button for one-tap follow
Following a Star adds them to your Following list — they don't follow back automatically (it's not a swap).
Inviting friends not on Currently
In the Invite Friends section, you'll see contacts who haven't joined Currently yet. Each row shows:
- Their initials in a circle (since you don't have their Currently photo)
- Their phone number (since they don't have a Currently handle yet)
- Green
+button to invite them
Tapping + opens your default messaging app with a pre-filled invite text and your Cntly.me/{username} link. Edit the message if you want, then send.
Earn 100 coins per invite. Each contact who joins Currently using your link earns you 100 coins for them and 100 coins for you (worth ₹10 each). Plus, they show up in your Joined tab on your profile.
Quick share row
If you'd rather share your invite link via QR code, social, or messaging, the Quick Actions row at the top of the People tab gives you instant options: QR CODE • SHARE • COPY • TEXT • WHATSAPP.
FAQs — Searching for people
Q. Why don't I see anyone in my Contacts on Currently section?
A. Either you haven't enabled Contacts permission (tap FIND FRIENDS in the gate to enable), or none of your phone contacts are on Currently yet. As more friends join, this section fills up.
Q. Will my contacts know I matched them?
A. No. Matching happens privately — your contacts don't get a notification that you found them. They just become discoverable in your Contacts on Currently section.
Q. Can I remove someone from my Contacts on Currently list?
A. Tap the ✕ next to their name to dismiss them from this view. (It doesn't unfollow them or remove them from your phone contacts — just hides them from this section.)
Q. How are Currently Stars chosen?
A. Currently picks Stars based on a combination of factors: founders/creators, accounts with strong engagement, accounts producing standout content. The list rotates over time.
Q. Why does Find Friends show people I don't know?
A. Find Friends suggests people based on mutual friends, location overlap, shared interests, and activity. They might be friends-of-friends, or just nearby active users.
Q. Can I see who I've recently followed?
A. That's available on your Profile → Friends → Following tab. The Search People tab shows people to follow next, not people you already follow.
