Use the # prefix, the Post button, and Everyone / Friends filters.
Why hashtags matter
Hashtags on Currently group moments by theme — #cricket, #happymoment, #sundaybrunch. Searching by hashtag lets you discover all moments using the same tag, even from people you don't follow.
Searching by hashtag
- Open the universal search bar (from any Search tab, top-right icon).
- Type
#followed by the hashtag (e.g.,#Harsh,#cricket,#wedding). - Currently shows a Hashtag section with matching tags.
Hashtag search results.
# sompura— Use • 2 Moments [Post].# Gamer— Use • 2 Moments [Post].# king— Use • 2 Moments [Post].
Each hashtag shows how many moments use it (Use • 2 Moments) and a green Post button.
Tapping a hashtag
Tap the hashtag itself (or its name) to open the hashtag results page. This shows:
- Hashtag header with the # icon and the tag name
- Use count (
Use • 2 Moments) and a Post button — see below - Filter tabs: Everyone / Friends — filter to all users or just people you follow
- Grid of moments tagged with that hashtag, with reactions, locations, and distances
The Post button
Tapping Post on a hashtag jumps you straight into the camera, with the hashtag pre-added to your caption. A fast way to participate in a trending conversation.
Why post directly from a hashtag. If you see a hashtag trending and want to add your own moment to it, Post saves you the steps of typing the tag manually. Capture, write your caption, and the tag is already there.
The Everyone / Friends filter
On the hashtag results page, two tabs let you switch the source:
- Everyone — all public moments using this hashtag, from across Currently
- Friends — only moments from people you follow
Everyone is great for discovery (see what strangers are posting). Friends keeps it personal.
FAQs — Searching by hashtag
Q. Why don't I get hashtag results when I type a word without #?
A. Without the # prefix, Currently treats your search as a general query (people, places, moments). To search hashtags specifically, prefix with #.
Q. Can I create a new hashtag?
A. Yes — just use it in a moment caption (e.g., type #mynewtag in the caption field). Once posted, the tag becomes searchable. The first moment using a new tag effectively creates it.
Q. Why does my hashtag have only 0 or 1 moments?
A. It might be very new, or very specific. Hashtags grow only as more people use them — so brand-new tags often have just 1 or 2 moments. Use them anyway and they may catch on.
Q. Are Hindi/Hinglish hashtags supported?
A. Yes — #yaartmove, #chaiparty, and Devanagari hashtags all work. Currently doesn't restrict hashtag language.
Q. Can I follow a hashtag like I follow a person?
A. Not yet — hashtag-following isn't available. For now, search the hashtag whenever you want to see new moments using it. We may add follow-hashtag in future updates.
