Close Friends

Updated

Your private inner circle for moments only they can see.

What is the Close Friends list?

Your Close Friends list is a private group of people who get exclusive access to certain moments. When you post a moment with Close Friends visibility, only people on this list can see it.

Instagram users will recognize this. Currently's Close Friends works similarly to Instagram's Close Friends — a curated subset of your followers who see your private posts. The big difference: in Currently, Close Friends moments can't be re-shared by anyone, ever.

Adding people to Close Friends

  1. Open your profile → Friends tab → Close Friends sub-tab.
  2. Use the search bar to find people from your Followers list.
  3. Tap the + button next to a name to add them.
  4. They're added instantly — no notification or approval needed.

Removing someone from Close Friends

  1. Open your profile → Friends tab → Close Friends sub-tab.
  2. Find their name in the list.
  3. Tap Remove.
  4. They no longer see your Close Friends moments going forward (existing ones become invisible to them).

How they're notified — they're not

Close Friends is silent. When you add or remove someone from Close Friends, they don't get a notification. They might figure it out if your Close Friends moments suddenly start appearing (or stop appearing) in their feed.

Posting to Close Friends

When creating a moment, change the visibility to Close Friends (instead of Public or Private). Only your Close Friends list will see the post. The moment carries a Close Friends badge so they know it's exclusive.

FAQs — Close Friends

Q. How many people can I add to Close Friends?

A. There's no hard cap, but the list is meant to be small (10–30 people). Adding hundreds defeats the purpose of having an inner circle.

Q. Will my friend know if I removed them from Close Friends?

A. They won't get a notification, but they may notice when your Close Friends moments stop showing up in their feed. If you're nervous, just stop posting Close Friends moments for a while before removing them.

Q. Can my Close Friends share my moments with others?

A. No — Close Friends moments can't be re-shared, screenshotted with attribution, or forwarded. The Share button is disabled on them. (Of course, someone could still take a screenshot — Currently can't physically prevent that.)

Q. Can I have multiple Close Friends lists, like for different groups?

A. Right now, just one list. We may add multiple lists in future updates.

Q. If I post a regular moment, will my Close Friends see it too?

A. Yes — Close Friends are also followers, so they see all your public moments plus your Close Friends ones. Close Friends gets the extra private content, not less.

Q. Can I block someone from being on my Close Friends?

A. Just Remove them. If you want to fully cut ties, Block them — that takes them off Close Friends, removes them as a follower, and prevents them from interacting with you again.
