When the predefined list doesn't fit.
When to use a custom activity
Most of the time, a predefined activity will fit your moment. But sometimes you're doing something specific — Function, Karaoke, Garba, Live podcast, Hackathon — that isn't in the list. That's what custom activity is for.
How to add one
- Inside the activity picker, after picking a broad activity (e.g., Attending), scroll to the bottom of the sub-options.
- Find the
+ Add custom activityfield. - Type your custom activity name (e.g.,
Function). - Tap the green Add button next to the field.
- Your custom activity is added with a green pill —
Selected: Attending - Function. - Tap Confirm to apply.
Or via search
If your search returns no matches, the search field itself shows your typed text plus an Add button:
Example — adding from search. Type
Tv→ search returns nothing → see Tv [Add] → tap Add. NowTvis your custom activity for this moment.
Custom activity rules
- Keep it short — 1-2 words max (
Function,Hackathon,Garba night) - No emojis — Currently auto-assigns one based on the parent activity
- No special characters — letters and spaces only
- Reasonable language — no profanity, no spam (Currently filters)
One-time or recurring? Custom activities are per-moment — they don't get added to the global activity list. If you create
Garbaas a custom for one moment, the next moment will need you to type it again. This is intentional — to keep the activity list clean.
Clearing a typed custom
If you typed something but want to clear it before adding, tap the Clear link on the right side of the input. It clears the field without saving.
FAQs — Custom activity
Q. Can my friends use the custom activity I created?
A. Custom activities you create are tied to your specific moment, not added to the global list. Friends can type the same word as their own custom activity if they want.
Q. Why doesn't Currently just let me type any activity?
A. The predefined list keeps activities consistent — Drinking - Coffee from one user matches Drinking - Coffee from another. Custom activities exist for genuine edge cases, not as the default.
Q. How long can my custom activity be?
A. A few words at most. Keep it short and recognizable (Hackathon is great, Annual TechCo Summer Hackathon Day 3 Workshop is too long).
Q. My custom activity got rejected. Why?
A. Currently filters profanity, spam-like text, and special characters. Try a cleaner version of what you typed.
